He spent some time in California as a child before moving back to Philadelphia, where he attended Abington Senior High School. After graduating high school in 1975, he continued his education at Temple University, where he studied film. His student project “Through Adam’s Eyes”, a film about a boy who received reconstructive facial surgery, was honored with an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards. He graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.
