Patrick Swayze net worth and salary: Patrick Swayze was an American actor who had a net worth of $40 million at the time of his death in 2009. Patrick Swayze acquired his net worth through a highly successful film and TV career which spanned over 30 years. In addition to the acting, Swayze was also a dancer, singer and songwriter. After pursuing multiple athletic skills in high school, including dance and acting, Swayze moved to New York in the early 1970s to complete his formal dance training at the Harkness Ballet and Joffery ballet schools. His move to pursue dancing paid off as Swayze landed his first professional gig with Disney on Parade. He then went on to take the role of Danny Zuko in the long-running Broadway production, Grease. In the late 1970s, Swayze made his film debut, taking the lead role in Skatetown, USA. He became known to the film industry after he appeared in the 1983 film, The Outsiders, starring alongside up-and coming stars Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise. However it was his appearance in the 1985 miniseries, North and South that gave Swayze the well-deserved recognition. After causing a stir in ABC’s popular production, Swayze never looked back.
Patrick went on to appear in the 1987 low budget film, Dirty Dancing alongside Jennifer Grey. Dirty Dancing became a surprise hit, as the film was intended to be shown in theatres for one weekend only and then go straight to video. It gained international success, with stage productions, TV series and even a video game based on the film. As for Swayze, he received the Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal as a dance instructor. The massive success of Dirty Dancing just kept following in Swayze’s direction: he performed one of the songs on the soundtrack, She’s Like the Wind, which became a top ten hit. Swayze went on to star in the 1990 hit film, Ghost, alongside Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. Swayze continue to thrive throughout the 1990s and the 2000s, starring in cult movies, including Break Point (1991), alongside Keanu Reeves and Donnie Darko (2001). He made his West End debut in the musical, Guys and Dolls in 2006. Swayze’s fortune changed for the worst as he was diagnosed pancreatic cancer in 2008. Just 20 months after being diagnosed, Swayze lost the battle with the disease on September 14 2009. He was 57.
