Chaplin died on December 25, 1977 in his home in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Vaud, Switzerland of natural causes. His body was dug up for ransom in 1978 by two immigrants. It was later found in a field in Noville. He was married four separate times. His wives were Mildred Harris, Lita Grey, Paulette Goddard, and Oona O’Neill.
